Purely Peplum

To start off the latest addition to our Lily & Migs brand (our j+l blog) we figured we'd talk about something we BOTH actually agree on; peplums.  They are "trending" right at the moment and we couldn't be happier as we've been incorporating this feminine detail into our collections
since day one.
The word "peplum" is derived from the Greek word "pepos"; meaning tunic.  It is defined as a short overskirt or ruffle attached at the waistline of a garment.  The detail became popular in the 1940s, but then faded a decade later; they were mostly shown in women's suiting.  Peplums came back on the scene in the late 1980s and stayed until the early 1990s.  During this period they appeared a bit lengthier and when shown on a suit jacket, were normally paired with shoulder padding.  A reinvented shorter and fuller peplum hit the fashion circuit in the 2000s and seems to have some serious staying power.

Some "blast from the past" as well as current Lily & Migs peplum detailing:

Sporting a garment with a peplum detail doesn't have to necessarily mean you are attending a black tie gala; they are now seen on the hem of tees as well as relaxed skirts and dresses that can be worn during the day hours with flats.  They still make a killer addition and add some fabulous detail to a skirt that can be worn to work with a jacket.   This look can easily be transitioned into a night out without having to make an annoying pit stop at home.  So put on a peplum and feel pretty!
